Thursday Thrift Store Finds

We're on a 2 week spring break from school and I have spent the first little bit hanging out with a good friend and her kids who are visiting from Ontario.  When she saw the cake plate I made from thrifted items she decided to try her hand at it.  She is not a card holding member of Thrift Store Shoppers Anonymous so I pulled some strings and got her in.

I'm not quite ready for a new project but I couldn't pass up what I found waiting for me.  I'm still on the hunt for a chair for my daughter's desk so I always head straight to the chairs.  This beautiful creature certainly can't be used for a desk but how could I not take it home I ask you?

The chair is quite petite and while I"m very comfortable with bold colours I think this time I'm going to push myself a little and go for a strong pattern as well.  Here are just a couple of possibilities.

1/ Chair sprayed in turquoise and a bright paisley pattern
2/ Chair sprayed with emerald green and a strong black and white graphic

I also found this fantastically gorgeous tray.  If I can manage to remove the rust without damaging the original surface then I will leave it.  If the rust removal either proves impossible or damaging then I'll have to come up with a plan b.  Does anyone have a rust removal trick they can share?

 Look at the beautiful beaded handle.  Love!

  1. Hello Carol, thanks for your lovely comment on my blog - they always make me happy. What an amazing find this chair is - I love the ideas you've come up with -I would probably go for the bright option, but then again I'm liking the emerald green/B&W option. Can't wait to see how it turns out. Following you back :)
    Happy thursday!

  2. I love it when I find a treasure at a thrift store that I can work a little magic on. Love both options for the chair,but I'm a little partial to the first one.

  11. Great score on the chair! She's a beauty and either possibility would look great! I always head to the chairs and dressers. I'm feeling a little bit of thrifting withdrawal coming on! :)

  15. You're right, how COULD you not take the chair home. I like the options you are considering and how you paired the fabric with paint. Cool idea!

    The tray would look great on a wall as is.

  16. #1 for sure!!! I am about to crack open a tin of turquoise blueish paint for that end table I bought. Still want the other one?

    I need to head over to your side of town again, seems that our thrift stores here are too picked over. Actually I have been banned, until I finish my other projects, the garage is a little full and the armchair is half done {but I can always sneak things into the crawl space -devious, I know!}

  19. Oh, I have a thrift store chair very similar to this in the waiting area :) I just bought the fabric at fabric.com. I am painting mine high gloss white and doing the seat and seat back in Robert Allen's Randy in Geranium (hot corally pink). The back of the chair will be done in Robert Allen's Summerlin (a floral) in Geranium. Stop by and see my most recent chair makeovers. Just posted them!

  22. Depends on the color scheme in the room the chair will be in, but both would look great. I lean towards turquoise and paisley, but that is just me... Great finds!
