My Name is Carol and I"m a Fabricaholic

Somebody needs to make me stop.  I can't stop sewing.  I know this doesn't sound like a bad thing but really, I don't even like sewing.  I'm not even good at sewing.  But yet, I keep sewing.   I keep ordering fabric and once it arrives I have to sew!  Here's my partner in crime.

And here's a peek at some of the things I've been working on and believe me, this is not the end. These two will actually end up on our master bed once I find that elusive gray duvet cover I've been scouring the stores for.  Do NOT say that I should sew one.  That is never, ever going to happen.

Next up came a pillow for the young girl's room.  There's more to come in the next short while in her room.  How can one tiny little girl require so much fabric??  The problem is that she's so darned appreciative.  When she squeals, "Oh my gosh mommy.  It's soooooo beautiful" I want to run down and sew another pillow for her.

You've already seen this.  These were only born because the fabric wasn't right for the faux roman blinds I wanted to make.

So this fabric arrived yesterday and I whipped up 2 of these last night.  I will be posting a tutorial on how to sew these next week at House of Fifty blog.

The only cure for this fabric addiction is a painting project.  I"m on the lookout right now for something awful that I can transform into something super fabulous.

  1. You're amazing! You just whipped up faux romans?! All that measuring would have taken me forever. They look awesome! Love that fabric you used! Love the yellow chevron pillows, too. Can't wait to see your room completed. Yellow & Grey is one of my favorite color combos. Thanks for sharing.

  4. If you sew your duvet cover with an envelope closure, it's just like sewing a giant pillowcase. I'm not "sayin," I'm just sayin', you know? :)

This is coming from someone who SHUDDERS at the thought of sewing a straight line. I like to sign other people - like you - up for sewing jobs. :)

  5. you are hilarious. I laughed out loud when I saw the title to the post in my sidebar. I have the opposite problem: I buy fabric and then DON'T sew it! It's nice that you're being so productive, no?

  6. You are so funny;) Me and sewing, not such great friends. I barely passed sewing in high school!! I love all your projects so keep them coming! I also have a yellow and grey bedroom scheme and really love it. Hopefully you will find a duvet soon!

  10. Wow, Carol very impressive. I can't believe you just "whipped" up two roman shades last night! I have been wanting to make a roman shade, but am nervous about trying it. Great job, I love the fabric.

  11. Carol, you are so talented. Roman blinds? Pillows? You have my absolute respect. I don't even know how to thread the sewing machine. You did a great job.

Love all your fabric selections! This is seriously an addiction I would love to have so I can buy fabrics I fancy for curtains instead of buying mass produced store bought ones!

  13. OMG, I'm in love with that roman shade! I can't wait for the tutorial!!!
Sorry, but I do think you should sew a gray duvet. If you sewed two flat sheets together, wouldn't it be just like sewing a giant pillow?
Also, I just need to tell you for the record that I just finished writing a post (scheduled for tomorrow) with almost the exact same title before coming over to your blog. It is like two great minds thinking alike :)

  33. I'm totally with you. Fabric is a weakness. It's my main source of clutter, especially because my first job in the design industry was for a textile company and I still have scads of fabric tucked away in bins. I'm so pumped to see your shade tutorial! Oh, and I'm pretty sure I used the same exact yellow chevron fabric for my baby's room!

  34. Love you faux shade! I need need NEED to relearn how to operate a sewing machine. That pedal is so daunting to me.

  35. I'm in the market for a sewing machine...one catch - no idea how to sew (but my Mom does so she can teach me!) Do you like your machine? I'm afraid I'll also become addicted to sewing pillows.
