Paint That Brown Wood!

For those of you who are afraid to slap some paint on that piece of furniture that you're not loving, let me say "DO IT" and I eagerly encourage you to do it bold.

This lovely piece was a gift from my mom 2 houses ago.  I wanted to keep it because it was a gift from my mom and because it really worked in the space but the dark brown wood was invisible on our dark blue walls.

I decided to try Behr Primer & Paint in one for this.  It took 4 coats but overall the colour is great and the finish is a nice satin.  I won't be in contact with piece too often so I didn't even bother to add a polyurethane finish (lazy worker!)
I had the colour matched to Benjamin Moore Starburst Orange 2010-30.  I wanted something with a coral feel.  I opened the can after it sat around for a couple of weeks and the can was fuschia.  It stirred right back to orange but I knew I was going to love it!

I'm loving the bright colour and especially the bold contrast between the orange piece and blue wall.  Even the skeptics in the house who hated it while I was painting are now converts.

Orange crush!

  12. YOu are an inspiration - that orange makes everything on it look exotic like treasures. We painted the mud room this colour - I was worried and now its my favourite colour in the house. If we ever repaint, i might try it on one wall. If too much, we can always re-paint - right? Heading down to your post below to have a good old catch up

  21. AWESOMENESS! The orange is gorgeous, and it's the perfect contrast to the dark blue wall (which is also pretty fab!)

Hubby ordered a paint sprayer that will be arriving soon. And he's setting up a spray booth in the basement. I can't wait to get my hands on some old furniture and work some colour magic!

  22. Ya know, there will always be those naysayers telling you not to paint wood. I think that the first paint stroke I feel a tad guilty but then after the second ...... I fly through the paint process. I couldn't agree more with you Carol about painting furniture and I just LOVE that color. Coral is so making a come back.

  25. Oooh so fun! Glad the skeptics are now converts. ;) I personally didn't like the Behr primer+paint. Four coats is about two too many for my patience. :)
