Painting Interior Doors

One of the things that's keeping me awake at night these days are my interior doors.  They're white and boring like the doors in so many other new homes.  I bet many of you have equally ugly doors so I think we should all get out our paint brushes and give our doors some life.  Which category do you fall into when you think about painting doors?

SOPHISTICATED AND DRAMATIC - Black is bold and strong but it's also considered sophisticated and can work well in both traditional and contemporary spaces.

CHIC & SUBTLE - This one is a lower contrast so definitely a good option for the faint of heart.  I really like that the door frame has been painted the same colour.

STAR OF THE SHOW - These wild colours are great if you're just looking to paint one door or a set of doors.  I'm pretty sure too much of this good thing could go very wrong so use restraint people.

PAINTED EDGE - I am so crazy about this idea. It's a great option for someone who is just not ready to paint but wants to add a bit of pizazz to the room.

So which one are you more likely to lean towards?  Have you been brave enough to paint your interior doors?

  1. I kinda like the start of the show doors! I think if you have white or neutral walls it's a great way of adding some fun. I also really liked the painted edge.

  4. The painted edge is tres cool but it would look shabby real quick on my doors because most of them rub against the door jamb & the worn paint would really emphasize that :( I'm seriously considering black for the french doors in my dining room. Do you think all the doors on a single floor need to be treated the same of just within a particular room?

  5. My doors are horrible! They don't even have those nice little square panels in them....just flat wood. Blah! But the cost to replace them is huge (because of course, each one is custom-sized), and I just can't justify it when there's so much else to do. Love the idea of painting them black though!

  6. Love the painted edge door it's subtle. Years ago I painted my pantry door in three different colors, the door had six panels so I painted them in two sets using three colors. It was a good conversation piece when I would entertain but after 5 years I painted it boring white, I just wanted a clean look. Thanks for sharing! Maybe it's time to try it again :)

I have never seen the edge thing before. I like it!

I'm too boring to go all crazy with door color. I did paint the door in our mudroom though and I do love it!

  12. Love all of those pics! I painted my interior doors BM Iron Mountain... but now I kind of wish I would have gone for straight black. I LOVE the colorful edge. It would be so easy to add, and such a fun, unexpected touch of color!

  14. I've never seen the painted edge before! I think I'd go with something subtle, but then again I can't stand the thought of sanding/priming/painting my interior doors, so I probably wouldn't even do that. I'm boring.

"I'm pretty sure too much of this good thing could go very wrong so use restraint people." Bahaha. :)

    Welcome back!

  15. I love the new look Carol!!!!! Very nice. As for doors, I love, love, love black doors. Those yellow ones are pretty appealing but I don't think you would paint all of your doors yellow.... Perhaps your front door???

  26. If you are planning to install new interior doors in your home this year, you can actually choose from so many different styles, textures and colors. If you are keen enough and want to experiment with new color combination, there different colors available ranging from red, cream and white to mention a few. Whether you are renovating or decorating or it is for the new home, a style choice is a must for you. Select the right style that best matches your space decor. This work is like a "Work of Art" so stylist and quality, cool, and good work!
