My New Favourite Gray Paint

All my clients wants gray walls right now so I am becoming well versed on the gray section of my colour decks.  I know you're nodding your head because if you haven't already pulled the trigger you want gray walls also, right?

This is one of my new favourites and I had to share so we can spread the gray goodness all around.

Thunder by Benjamin Moore (AF-685) - I discovered this one a few months ago while helping friends chose a colour.  Once I saw it up on the walls I was madly in love.  It looks like a greige on the chip (a cross between a beige and a gray) but actually reads like a pure, soft gray on the walls.  It has no visible undertone which is almost unheard of in the gray world.  I was so happy for my friends but wishing I had known about this before I painted Stonington Gray on my own walls.

  6. I love this grey- thanks for putting this out there. The grey we had in our living room previously was too dark and drab and I've been looking for a lighter touch. Funny, we have the screen print on the left in the top photo!

  8. Yes! We painted Thunder in our kitchen/eating area/hallway/stairway/upper hallway a year or so ago. I LOVE it. The livingroom is Whisper, I think (similar, but lighter)...they go very nicely together.

  9. Gorgeous! I love Wind's Breath on my walls, it looks like a soft muted purpley gray. I am always wanting to get a chip of London Fog, curious to know how that looks. I want to paint my stairwell and hallway this fall and need to match the pinky grey tiles in the hallway and icky carpet.

  10. If this passes your test, then I'm in! But what I like most about your feedback is the fact that the gray doesn't have an obvious undertone. That's a selling point for me right there!

  11. It's one of my fav grays, i painted 1/2 my house in it, and it also pairs up great with Dolphin. I'd say Thunder has a slight green undertone, which is why it works so well. Your Stonington gray must read as blue??
Graaaayt post (pardon the pun!) Jil

  13. Thanks for sharing! You had me at "no visible undertone". That is the hardest part about selecting the right gray.

  14. Yep, in love here! Now, where can I use Thunder.... :-) I've used quite a few greys in our house - my favourite of them all is BM Chelsea Grey. It's a great background for my gallery wall.

  17. I really like it. How is Stonington Grey reading in your home? I just saw someone on Twitter post something like "Embrace your love for beige" as if it's not gone yet. But grey really is the new beige. Thanks for the recommendation on this - I'll have to bookmark or Pin for future reference.

  21. ooo! I like this! I might just have to swing on over to BM. I've been thinking about a grey for our main floor. I considered Stonington Grey for our nursery, how do you find it reads on your walls?

  23. Ga-horgeous. If not in love, I definitely want to go on a second date :) I do want to paint our living room gray (with a green undertone) instead of the current cream, but my better half says we can't do it yet cause we just painted it 18 months ago... that's a long time ago, right?? Besides which we had no color scheme or furniture to speak of at the time. LOL sigh. What undertones did Stonington Gray end up with?

  24. After going thru 16 BM Gray samples on my master bedroom, I FINALLY decided on Thunder and started painting today. How coincidental to run across your blog post. I feel the same way about this color and EVERY other gray I tried had some sort of undertone or didn't work for some reason. I felt like throwing a party when I found Thunder.
