Be The Best You

So we're halfway through the first month of the year.  How are you doing with your resolutions?  Just in case you're feeling guilty that you didn't make any, here's a fun list that can give you some motivation to live your best life.  They're not really resolutions but just things that might make you feel like you're paying attention to your life.

A couple of years ago I was left at home alone when my husband took the kids to visit his mom.  I decided I would do something that was uncomfortable for me just to push myself a bit and I went to a movie alone.  It was a very liberating experience and I'm so glad I did it although I was pretty self conscious until the lights went down.

Do you like pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone?

  1. I moved to a new city when I was in my early 20s and would go to the movie to pass the time till I made friends. I often think it would have been so much easier if Twitter/Facebook had existed then! Now it doesn't bother me to go to the movies alone at all:)

  2. Hi Carol,
I love the way you think! We could all use an awakening to life I have been giving this a lot of thought lately ,it's so easy to get caught up in the tasks of living instead of paying attention to how we are living. Thanks for this post!

  3. I've never been to a movie alone, although I really should because I have very different tastes from my husband so I miss many films I would like to see. I always talk to strangers. I make a point of asking everyone I meet a question, whether in the grocery store line up, walking the dog, waiters etc. People love to talk, especially about themselves. You wouldn't believe the things people will tell you resulting from a simple friendly question.

  4. Going to a movie alone is on my list of things to do. Why is it such a hard thing?

I'm sticking to my "be tough" resolution. It's vague enough that it's hard to fail. ;)

  5. I'm still working away on the decluttering thing. I've turned this resolution into a monster, and now I just want to run and hide from it ;-) But my motivation is a little pact I made with myself - if I head out thrifting I have to take a bag of donations with me! In the meantime... I think I'll only drink good wine LOL!

  7. I tried once to go to a movie by myself, I got into the theatre ...... waited, waited and waited, checked my watch noticed the movie was late .......... found out I was in the wrong theatre!!!!! Gee, the fact that I was the only one in there could've been a clue but it was a matinee so I figured it was a slow day. Turns out there were two theaters with the same movies but of course I walk into the wrong one. Perhaps if I wear a yellow shirt one day, I'll have more fun.

  8. I am terrible about pushing myself outside of my comfort zone but have to tell you I LOVE these "resolutions"! I think I might start with wear yellow!

  9. I didn't really make any major resolutions, although I am trying to cook and eat healthier. So far so good, and good wine is still allowed! That's healthy right? I've been wanting to read a classic, perhaps something by Jane Austen. Love your outlook!

  10. What if you think the "good" wine is three-buck chuck from Trader Joes? :)

  11. I do like to try new things. I'm also trying to go with the flow more this year and not be SO regimented - particularly with making plans.
