How to Decorate a Lamp Shade

If you were reading earlier this week you saw my post about spray painting a lamp coral. Once that was finished it looked so damn good that it made it hard to find a shade that could live up to such a high standard. Some dollar store daisies inspired me to try to transform the shade and I have to say, it may have even have become the star of this dynamic duo.

WHAT YOU NEED

Any kind of dollar store flower will work. I used 10 bunches with 5 flowers per bunch. I ended up with only 1 flower left over in the end.

Cut the stem off each flower as close to the base as you can get. I tried wire cutters first but ended up using scissors. I was able to get much closer to the base with scissors.

Add a generous glob of hot glue to the base of the flower.

And stick 'em on.

There was no rhyme or reason to the order I used. I just tried to make sure they covered the shade but could each stretch out their petals.

And that's it! Easy or what, huh?

  8. That's a really fun & creative way to dress up a lamp shade :-) The daisies are bright & cheerful, and the coral paint you used on the base is a beautiful colour - perfect for a girl's room :-) I bet your daughter loves it!

I did something similar with an old lamp my brother dumped on my years ago (you may have seen it in my loft makeover post). I couldn't sell it on Kijiji, so I decided to give it a makeover. I spray painted the base purple and cobered the shade with a purple & white leopard print fabric.

(If you paint another lamp, you can save a lot of time taping off by wrapping the harp & socket with saran wrap and just using a bit of tape to hold it to the base of the socket.)
